Nearly 69% of India’s youth population aged 18 to 34 resides in rural areas, with around 55 million youth from economically weaker families facing unemployment or underemployment. To harness this demographic potential, the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is being actively implemented across 28 states and Union Territories, covering over 689 districts and 7,426 blocks. Currently, more than.

1,575 skill development projects are being run in 502+ trades across 50 industry sectors by over 717 training partners. As of April 1, 2020, over 9.9 lakh rural youth have received skill training, and more than 5.3 lakh candidates have been successfully placed in jobs. The Government of India has invested ₹5,600 crore into the scheme since its inception in 2012 to empower rural youth through sustainable livelihoods.
