Middle Class Housing Scheme Eligibility Criteria
- The family must live in a city and should be from EWS, LIG or MIG group, and must not have any pucca house anywhere in the country.
- If a house was already given to the person under any government housing scheme in the last 20 years, then they can’t get benefit again under this scheme.
- EWS means yearly income up to Rs. 3 lakh, LIG means Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, and MIG means Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.
- States can change EWS income limit, but only after taking permission.
- More preference will be given to widows, single women, disabled persons, old people, SC/ST, transgenders, and poor people.
- Safai karmis, street vendors under PMSVANidhi, Anganwadi workers, labourers, slum and chawl people will also be given special focus.
- If parents of someone already got a pucca house earlier, then that person will be considered only after others who didn’t get any benefit.
- Houses that got cancelled after 31st December 2023 by the committee cannot be given again under this scheme.
- A person can get benefit from PMAY-G or PMAY-U 2.0, but not from both.
- Aadhaar or Aadhaar Virtual ID must be given by all family members. If not made yet, then it should be done fast.
- A committee led by District Magistrate or Commissioner will select the families. Two more public members can be added by the government.

Middle Class Housing Scheme Notes:
- Giving share by States/UTs is made must under PMAY-U 2.0, and if any State was giving more share earlier in old PMAY-U, then same more share should be kept giving now also, and also people who take houses must pay minimum 25% of total house or project cost, which is made compulsory.
- Extra grant called Technology Innovation Grant will be given by MoHUA, but only when special new building materials, technologies or process is used, and Rs. 1,000 for each sqm (for max 30 sqm) will be given on total built-up area including inside infrastructure to help if cost becomes more in AHP projects.
